The Last Word...
So, for anyone who wishes to enter the Gaslighting launch 'Lucky 13' prize draw without reading the novel, I promised to put the answer on my website, with a link from my Facebook pages, one week before the deadline of 21st July.
The giveaway qualifies as 'no purchase necessary' and is therefore legal in most countries worldwide.
The multiple choice answer can also be found in this quote from Mutilated, which happens to be the overarching concept for the entire Remorseless trilogy:

This also cunningly explains why the multiple choice is for the three temporal terms: past, present and future.
In each of the Remorseless novels our hero, Doc Powers, is confronted by someone reaching out from the past attempting to destroy his future.
Of course, no reader needs to understand or acknowledge this concept, it is merely a framework that I used to help create a coherent set of tales, in the same way that each novel also has a theme... And it is not psychopathy, although that facet is woven through each tale too. For anyone interested, the three themes are:
That explains some details you may not have wanted to know, but I thought I would share them here anyway, along with the answer for the 'Lucky 13' signed paperback giveaway. The final word in Gaslighting is:
'Future'
Oh, and one final point. It seems that some readers believe all the characters from The Remorseless Trilogy are now formally 'retired'. That is not the case... They are merely resting while I finish The Hack Trilogy! At least some of the characters will be back - with a different concept in mind - once I have delivered on my promise to those readers who preferred The Hack to Remorseless - not long to wait for The Hunter, folks. I am working on it!
Good luck to everyone entering the 'Lucky 13' prize draw, and thanks for your support!

And it is not psychopathy, although that facet is woven through each tale too. For anyone interested, the three themes are:
- Remorseless - Guilt. Doc v Leech are counterpoints with the former suffering from an excess of guilty feelings, while the latter is devoid of the emotion.
- Mutilated - The abuse of power and the 'othering' of marginalised people. The Surgeon is a 'successful' psychopath, hiding in plain sight behind his professional facade.
- Gaslighting - Nature v Nurture. The implications of genetics and upbringing in the development of psychopathic behaviours.
